When it comes to separation and divorce, parents are often at odds as to what’s in the best interests of the child. Engaging the services of a custody evaluator is often needed to make these important determinations. As a custody and parenting time evaluator, I meet with each parent, each child in the family, and others close to you, as well as review court and other documents and provide you with recommendations for legal and physical custody, parenting time, and many other aspects of co-parenting (e.g., transportation, holidays schedule, vacations, etc.).
I believe that children do best when they have safe, stable, and nurturing relationships with at least two parents. And every family is different! It’s important to find the best options for each child or children with their particular parents, under the current circumstances.
The process of conducting a custody evaluation is broken down into three distinct stages: 1) the initial investigation stage, the outcome of which is a set of recommendations that are shared with your respective attorneys: 2) the report writing stage, which is only needed if you and your co-parent don’t settle on custody, parenting time, and related issues, and 3) testimony, which is only needed if I as the evaluator is asked to testify regarding the report and recommendations. The time to complete the first stage of this process is approximately 3 months.
