Professional Services

    Home Professional Services

Are you a therapist working with a difficult, post-divorce situation and don’t know what to do next with the family you’re working with? Are you an attorney with a client suspecting alienation but you’re not sure if that’s really the case? Or you need an expert to provide testimony? I can be a resource for you and your clients.

    Therapists

Maybe you’ve just begun working with a resist/refuse case – a post-divorce or post-separation family that has been court-ordered to work with you for “reunification therapy” or “parent-child relationship repair” (PCRR) services and you’re not sure where to start. Or maybe you’ve been working with a family for months and have hit a roadblock and don’t know where to go next. I have years of experience working with families in these situations, families that fall all along the continuum of affinity to alienation.

I provide one-off consultations as well as ongoing case consultation and can help you more effectively manage the situation you are faced with. These cases are the hardest I’ve ever worked with, and that’s probably true for you, too. Not only are these cases extremely challenging, they can also be incredibly stressful and lead to burnout. Reach out and schedule a consultation today.

    Training for Therapists

There is little available to prepare therapists to work with difficult resist/refuse and other court-involved cases. Many therapists simply learn what they can “on the job,” but these families are so complex and difficult, that’s like jumping into the deep end of the pool not having any idea how to swim! I offer training to family and individual therapists who are looking to build their knowledge and skills in working with these most difficult cases. Training topics I cover in my 1.5 day workshop:

    • PCRR processes – models, steps, documentation
    • Types of cases and related issues
    • Pitfalls and how to overcome
    • The 8 most common roadblocks you’ll encounter
    • Dealing with stress & burnout
    • The ethics involved in this work
    • Avoiding board complaints

Email me for upcoming training dates in Minnesota. If your clinic/agency/chapter would like me to provide training, please contact me and we can refine the length and content to best fit your needs.

    Attorneys

If you had a dollar for every client that claimed “alienation!”, you might be able to retire! I can work with you to assess your client’s situation to see if there truly is alienation occurring. Or perhaps it’s a “hybrid” case of parental alienating behaviors and justified rejection – or maybe just a difficult situation of moving through divorce and adjusting to all of the changes that brings about. I can make that assessment and provide guidance as to how best to move forward in working with the family or individual therapists that may be involved.

I am also able to provide expert testimony on the topic of resist/refuse dynamics, parental alienating behaviors, parent-child contact problems, etc. As a therapist who has been working with these dynamics for years, I have the practical experience as well as the knowledge to provide the testimony your client may need.
